The "Open Webinars on Big Data Storytelling" course is an innovative e-learning resource designed to enhance skills in Big Data storytelling among graphic professionals. This course serves as the second Open Educational Resource (OER) of the DataStorytelling project and is delivered in a recorded format for asynchronous learning. The content focuses on five key topics: Data Set Preparation, Best Practices of Information Design, Big Data Storytelling, Tools and Digital Platforms for Visualization, and the EU Strategy on Big Data. Developed in collaboration with MCAST, Fondazione Clerici, I-strategies, EfcoCert, Momentum and external experts like Information Designers, this course aims to prepare graphic designers (both employed and unemployed), VET providers, and others in the private sector/start-up community for the Big Data economy.
The course emphasizes the development of new skills in Big Data storytelling, leveraging the power of visual storytelling which is proven to be more memorable, faster, informative, and engaging compared to traditional communication tools. Visual storytelling enhances memory retention, with individuals remembering 80% of what they see and do, processes visuals 60,000 times faster than text, and effectively transfers data and information through reduction and metaphorization. Moreover, it engages audiences by creating emotions and inspiring visual data stories.
