STORY CUBES IS A DICE GAME THAT HELPS YOU AND YOUR STUDENTS TO DEVELOP STORYTELLING SKILLS IN A FUNNY WAY
From the beginning of the quarantine period, and the following closure of schools, I had everyday lessons with my nine years old niece. One of the most positive things I personally experienced during the lockdown.
Since the beginning, we decided to dedicate the Wednesday lessons to develop #storytelling skills but we would like to have fun doing this.
How to develop storytelling skills through games?
We decided to use #StoryCubes. We discovered a really funny and #educationalgame. With another advantage: it is cheap!
How does it work?
In its classic version, #StoryCubes consists of a set of nine dices. In every face of the dices, there is a subject (a letter, an object, a face etc.).
Once the dice are rolled, each player becomes a narrator. Starting with “Once upon a time” you must create a story using a basic structure (introduction + development + conclusion) and connecting the nine different dice symbols.
Story Cube mostly focuses on three abilities: creativity as the capacity to use imagination to generate stories; narrative skills as the way to connect different pieces of a story in a unique sequence that makes sense; communication skills as the capacity to tell a story orally.
In addition to the basic one, there are other versions of the same game which focuses on different fields: heroes, actions, voyages etc. In this way you have the possibility to train your storytelling skills in the field your prefer or that is more attractive for you.
At the end of our Wednesday lessons, my niece and I had a lot of fun developing communication abilities using imagination and creativity.
In conclusion, Story Cubes is a funny educational too useful for developing basic storytelling skills even in the child.
